Green Be Gone!

As promised, I'm posting photos of our shabby white piano. You may recall from a previous post our very green piano purchased by my in-laws at a thrift store for $150. Finally, I found time to shabby it up with 3 coats of white paint, glass knobs, appliques and a music stand. The piano is too heavy to move outside, so I painted and sanded it in the middle of our living room. The most difficult part was painting around the piano keys! I glued furniture appliques to the sides. One wasn't quite long enough so I pieced 2 together. The wrought iron cherubs at the base were purchased for $5 each at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. The piano was missing its original music stand so I improvised and added a wrought iron piece I had hanging above my kitchen window. I purchased the padded bench at Home Goods and painted the legs white. The cover is coral in color and seems to work in our living room even though it's not pink. I may cover the seat later, but for now. . . I'm liking it!

  4. That is BEAUTIFUL!! I have been wanting to get an old piano and paint it white, but wasn't sure how hard it would be to paint around the keys!! Yours certainly looks worth the effort!

  9. You absolutely transformed that piece! I would not normally think of a piano as a piece of furniture, but the way you refinished this one makes it a real conversation piece. Great job!

  31. Hi Cindy, the piano painted white is incredible. Now I want to do mine. Only I may paint mine black. Many years ago my mother and I painted our old upright white with distress and soft golden trim. It was a big job but so much fun together. Your piano turned out wonderful and I love the music holder and the bench seat is lovely. Beautiful shabby statement.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

  35. Just had to come back and tell ya that I saw your house over at The old Painted Cottage! CUTE!! My favorite though is the pictures with the fabric mats of the babies-soo sweet. Are these current photos? I was looking for your new cabinet and farm table...Very nicely done!

Also, I just had to tell you that the owners of the shop that I sell at were at the Rose Bowl Flea Market and bought that bird house and bench you had pictured so now they are here in Idaho! How cool is that?

  38. I must say the result is gorgeous, but since green is my favorite color, I would have kept it green and also added the white embellishments, and perhaps painted them green or kept them white.
Still the work you did is amazing.

  39. Love love love your white piano! Can I ask where you got the wrought iron piece that you used as the music stand?
